María Guadalupe Alda is a neonatal paediatrician. As we usually call her, Lupe graduated in 2004 from the School of Medicine in Argentina. She trained in paediatric medicine at Hospital Italiano in Buenos Aires. Subsequently, Lupe sub-specialised in neonatology at Sanatorio de la Trinidad Palermo in Buenos Aires, where she worked as a consultant neonatologist for three years before migrating to Australia in 2014.
Since arriving in Australia, she worked at Monash Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women and Paediatrics and the Paediatric Infant Perinatal Emergency Retrieval at The Royal Children Hospital.
Her main interest is neurodevelopmental follow-up. As a consultant in Argentina, she coordinated the preterm follow clinic. Lupe has enrolled to commence a PhD in 2022 at the University of Melbourne. She plans to study the short- and medium-term neurologic and neurodevelopmental impacts of foetal growth restriction.
Lupe has a lovely family which includes her school-age children and her husband. She enjoys cooking Argentinian food when she is not running her children around and is fluent in Spanish as well as English.
